Frequently Asked Questions
How is Precision Songs different from other children’s tapes?
Precision Songs’s goal is to help language impaired children improve their ability to communicate by breaking down large amounts of practical information into small bite size pieces and then setting those pieces to simple music. Unlike typical recordings, Precision Songs includes a second version of each song with specific lyrics missing. The missing lyrics, usually the answer to a question, are an obvious omission left for your child’s live response. Finally, information taught in song is presented again without music in spoken form. In this way, a bridge is slowly built from singing to speaking.
What specifically do Precision Songs songs teach?
Our first CD, "Sing to Greet the World Around Me", teaches how to answer basic social questions, label colors, name parts of the body, imitate animal sounds, recognize community helpers, and other early childhood topics. Our second CD, "Sing to Tell You How I Feel", aids children in recognizing and understanding emotions both in themselves and in others. The "Sing to Socialize" project teaches the first steps to understanding social complexities. With these songs we illustrate a conversational exchange, show how to begin a conversation and actively listen, teach examples of people being nice or mean, give instructions on what to do if you are hurt, plus much more. "Sing to Answer Common Questions" will musically illustrate the often difficult difference between where, what, who, why, when, and how.
Who can use Precision Songs?
Any child who struggles significantly with language may benefit from Precision Songs. Even typically developing children request our music.
For what age is Precision Songs appropriate?
Again, any child that struggles significantly with language may benefit from Precision Songs. Below are warning signs that your child may not be meeting language milestones:
If by age 1 your child does not say mama and dada.
If by age 2 your child does not say the names of a few toys and people.
If by age 3 your child does not repeat simple rhymes.
If by age 4 your child does not talk in short sentences, understand simple who or what questions, or repeats what others say rather than responding.
If by age 5 your child cannot be understood by people outside the family, talks in only two- or three-word phrases, and/or does not follow simple two-step directions (Go to the kitchen and bring me a spoon).
We have found no cut off age for attempting interventions for a child that needs special help. (For more information on developmental mile stones go to www.successby6.net.)
What do you mean by a personalized song?
When you order the first CD, Greeting the World Around Me, you will fill out a short questionnaire giving us personal information about your child. This information includes: NAME, AGE, CITY AND STATE OF RESIDENCE, SIBLINGS NAMES IF ANY, TEACHER OR THERAPIST’S NAME, PARENT’S NAME, FAVORITE FOOD, SCHOOL ATTENDING, FAVORITE TV SHOW OR VIDEO, FAVORITE DRINK, FAVORITE TOY, BIRTHDAY, and PHONE NUMBER. When we receive this information we use it to personalize a CD. By hearing his or her own information sung (listen to demo), your child can begin to learn how to answer these questions appropriately in different social settings.
What about my child’s privacy?
Precision Songs does not share information with any other individual or organization. We hold your child’s personal information in a secure area for six weeks in case your CD is damaged or lost in the mail. The information is then permanently deleted. If you, the caregiver, desire, we will save your name and address in order to update you on further Precision Songs products. But again, we will not share it with any other individual or organization.

Why are personalized CDs more expensive than regular CDs?
Our first project is unique in that it personalizes social questions for each individual child. Each of these CDs has to be individually made and requires more time and attention than a regular CD.
How soon after ordering can my child expect to receive his or her personalized CD?
Personalized CDs may take as long as 6 weeks, but depending on demand, we may be able to get it to your child within 2 weeks.
When I order a personalized CD, can I leave an answer blank because it is not applicable to my child?
All questions must be answered or an order cannot go through. If the question is not applicable to your specific situation, answer as follows:
Sisters’ Names: I don’t have one.
Brothers’ Names: I don’t have one.
Teacher or Therapist’s Name: My mama teaches me.
School attending: I don’t go to school. or I’m homeschooled.
Caregivers need to answer for the child the questions of favorite food, drink, toy and TV show if preferences are not known. (What do you desire for your child’s favorite toy or TV show to be?) Include the name of both parents even if death or divorce has occurred. This allows a child to still have a sense of family even if that member is absent. If a child’s parent is also his or her only teacher, enter, Mama, teaches me., Dada teaches me., etc. Remember that the goal is not rigid factual accuracy but simply a greater ability to socialize.
Can this be used instead of therapy?
No. Precision Songs does not claim to be a therapy or a substitute for therapies and/or proper medical care. It is meant to augment a child’s learning by teaching new skills, reinforcing current learning, and reviewing known material. This is augmentation that requires no extra time or energy from a caregiver or therapist. Let your CD player work for you.

Do I need special equipment for Precision Songs materials?
No. If you own a CD player you are ready to order.
My personalized CD won't work in my CD player. Why?
Since they are not mass produced, personalized CDs are in CD-R format. Unfortunately, some older players are not equipped to play CD-Rs.
Do these songs need to be used in the order they are recorded?
These songs do not necessarily need to be used in the order they were recorded but they do follow a progression found in many therapy curricula. Be aware of your child’s needs and pick a song that meets a weakness.
Does my child need to master a song before going on to the next?
If, after repeated attempts, you are met with frustration learning one song, go on to another. Children can surprise you by using a song’s content in everyday life when least expected.
Can I just play the CD from beginning to end repeatedly?
We recommend that you approach Precision Songs one song at a time. However, some children may learn the songs’ contents just by repeatedly listening to the entire CD. Special kids have a way of surprising even those who know them best!
My child is not diagnosed with a special need but still is not meeting the milestones of a regularly developing child. Are Precision Songs’s educational materials appropriate?
We believe our materials would be helpful for a variety of disabilities and / or developmental delays.
As with any educational program for special needs children, the use of Precision Songs should be discussed with your family physician and/or mental health professional who manages the health of your child. Varied results are to be expected as every child faces a different set of gifts and challenges.
